The tests of the unique equipment were held in the subsidiary of JSC “MOESK” – RETO. The ferroresonance unit made by the company “Highvolt” (Germany) - the world's leading manufacturer of electrical products – is designed to test complete switchgear (SF6 control switchgear) of 500 kV and other high-voltage equipment. The principle of the device is based on achieving the resonance of voltage by way of changing the frequency of the output voltage to 680 kV, defining the reliability of the insulation.

“The advantage of the unit consists in the fact that it is mobile and has a relatively small size,” Mikhail Kornev, head of the electrical laboratory RETO said. “If now, when reconstructing substations, newly commissioned equipment is tested using indirect methods, this unit can be taken directly to the facility and perform a test there at the place. Thus, its use in the future will improve reliability of high voltage equipment up to 500 kV, the share of which in the grid infrastructure is increasing every year.

It is not for the first time, when the site of the MOESK’s subsidiary becomes a testing ground for the world's leading equipment manufacturers. Earlier, it hosted tests of transformers of 220-500 kV voltage class made by different manufacturers. Availability of railway for transportation of large cargo, spacious area with crane equipment, possibility of providing high-voltage, convenient location - a combination of these factors is crucial when choosing the plant RETO as a base for testing modern electrical products.
