JSC “MOESK” Carries out Active Work in Electric Traumatism Prevention

Power engineers of JSC “MOESK” together with the State Inspectorate for Small Vessels State Institution EMERCOM for Moscow Region and Moscow Hunting and Fishing Society (MHFS) are carrying out a campaign to inform the population about hazard of fishing and travelling on board ships with hoisted masts near junctions of the power transmission lines with water bodies.

Fishing amateurs and ship owners are referred to the population category which is mostly often exposed to hazard to suffer an injury near energy facilities. Many people don’t know that an electric shock hazard appears not only when touching a wire, but even if a person, fishing rods, masts of a ship or any other subject carrying electrical current (see the table) approximates it at inadmissible distances.

It’s worth bearing in mind that a distance from the earth to the wires of a power transmission line is about 6-7 meters. That’s why when waving with a fishing rod in a protective zone of a power transmission line, or when carrying over a fishing tackle in a vertical position under the wires there appears a risk to find oneself under voltage. The same situation – is electric shock and voltaic arc occurring – also takes place when a mast touches PTL, whereupon all persons being on board a ship can get an electrical trauma (very often a fatal injury).

Within the framework of the information campaign for electrical safety of year 2013 in the Moscow Region territory, the specialists of MOESK with support of State Inspection of Small Vehicles of Moscow Region (SISV MR) and MHFS distribute the agitation leaflets and posters with warning of the fishing amateurs and ship owners about electric shock hazard. The agitation products will be available in all the inspection districts of SISV MR, as well as in the central office of the service. The similar work will be performed as well in the hunting/fishing bases cooperating with MHFS.

Preventive measure of the electric traumatism of the third parties at the energy facilities of JSC “MOESK” is one of the top-priority trends of the Company’s work. The fifth year in a row within the framework of charitable action “Kind electricity – to children” the enterprise organizes the electric safety classes in the educational institutions of the region (135 classes were held just in year 2013). The Company’s power engineers also conduct explanatory talks with the population about hazard of fishing near PTL. The specialists of MOESK remind permanently of a fatal danger of self-willed connection to the electric grids in the course of an action holding to prevent non-contractual and non-accounted electric power consumption “Honest kilowatt”.

Power engineers are sure that the joint work of all the services will become the efficient measure in electric traumatism prevention, competence increase of the population as to electrical safety, and will help to form a respective cultural behavior.
