At substation “Ekran”, located in the responsibility area of Taldom distribution zone, the specialists of the Northern Electric Grids have started a point substitution of the technically obsolete switching equipment by a modern tank type SF6 circuit breaker.

Technology of the substitution of high-voltage circuit breakers not within the framework of the complex reconstruction of the feeding centers, and in the course of works under so called model patterns, making it possible to have a point effect on the most problem area of the electric grids – the systemically important switching equipment – is being tested in JSC MOESK for the first time.

Practical stage of the model pattern implementation was started on 06.08.2012, when a new tank type SF6 circuit breaker was put into operation at 110 kV substation “Krug”, located in the responsibility area of the Northern Electric Grids. It doesn’t create any additional load on the grid in the event of a fault section disconnection and if necessary makes it possible to produce a quick switching on to change an operational diagram.

Technical solution algorithm, elaborated by the specialists of the Northern Electric Grids, makes it possible to implement a point substitution of the obsolete switching equipment by modern SF6 circuit breakers, without an additional renovation of expensive relay protections, cheapens significantly a process of the technological reliability increase of the entire feeding center and guarantees a continuous power supply of consumers.

SF6 circuit breakers are manufactured in the territory of the Russian Federation with the participation of Chinese Company “China XD-Electric Co.,Ltd”. Tests, made by the Company’s specialists, have shown a high reliability of the new equipment: quantity of the fixed faults of the circuit breakers’ separate elements is 0,08 for 100 units of the installed equipment.

Model pattern of the point substitution of the high-voltage circuit breakers was approved by Rostekhnadzor, and the new equipment acquisition is included in the investment program.

The first results of the gas-insulated equipment installation will be obtained by the specialists during the current heating season already, and reliability and adaptivity of the new equipment is assumed to be estimated to the full extent during two years to come. If its function figures are high, then the experience of the Northern Electric Grids as to the point substitution of the obsolete switching equipment by the modern SF6 circuit breakers without an additional renovation of the relay protections will be applied in all the territorial subdivisions of MOESK.
