The branch of JSC “MOESK” - Western Electric Grids is ready for the fire season 2013. In order to ensure fire safety and improve the level of fire protection of electric grid complex, energy companies held a number of necessary measures.

Structural divisions cleared completely areas of power facilities from dry grass, performed repairs of access roads to water sources and fire hydrants, checked condition of outdoor fire water supply system, replenished stocks of water in fire reservoirs, checked technical condition of automatic fire alarm system, in-board fencing under oil-filled equipment, fireproof treatment of wooden poles was held, and many other things were done.

In order to create the mineralized band, special attention is paid to the condition of the borders of the feeding centers near wooded areas. For example, at 9 substations (S) located in the Odintsovo, Istra, Volokolamsk Ruza Electric Grid Districts, the perimeters of 35-110-220 kV substations were ploughed to the width needed to protect them against ground fires. Utilization of felling residues, dead wood and other combustible materials is regularly held in the protected zones of power lines. The staff was given required instructions on compliance with fire safety regulations and observance of fire safety conditions at the facilities of the branch.

“As the period of high temperatures sets in, all structural units have introduced strict fire regime, and necessary tests of equipment are held. All facilities of the branch are equipped with necessary means of fire-extinguishment. We don’t leave unattended the condition of neighboring transformer substations and distribution points, eliminating the possibility of spontaneous combustion of these facilities,” Victor Ivanov, chief engineer of the Western Electric Grids said.

At the end of May, Odintsovo district plans to hold incident command-team exercises jointly with the State enterprise of the Moscow Area “MOSOBLPOZHSPAS”, which will work out a scheme of all forces involved in elimination of emergency conditions, including those caused by forest fires.
