JSC “MOESK” Renders Support to Holy Trinity – St. Sergius Lavra in Upgrading of power grid facilities

“Moscow United Electric Grid Company” as a part of charity support, has completed upgrading the main feeding center of The Holy Trinity- St. Sergius Lavra, situated in Moscow satellite town – Sergiev Posad. The reconstruction will enhance power supply reliability and quality of one of the Great Russian orthodox monasteries.

The necessity of reconstruction, which began in 2010, was dictated by high greed of wear of the feeding center equipment, situated in Pyatnitskaya Tower of the Lavra. Equipment, installed here, being archaic and dilapidated, could not satisfy the monastery’s requirements in electrical power of high quality and reliable power supply.

In the course of the works, carried out by technical personnel of Sergiev Posad DZ (Distribution Zone), old switchgear (RU) of 0,4 kV was replaced with new four section switchgear of 0,4 kV. One complete substation with two transformers of 1000kV installed outside the territory of the Lavra, old cables and other segments of power grid network were replaced as well, that gave an opportunity to enhance the Lavra feeding center reliability.

In 2014 Russia will celebrate the 700th anniversary of the birth of Sergiy Radonezhskiy. The Holy Trinity- St. Sergius Lavra will become the center of festive events. It’s expected that a great number of palmers, official delegations, including of the highest level as well, from Russia, near-abroad and far-abroad countries will arrive. Large scale works on preparation of the jubilee are carrying out in Sergiev Posad and supplying of additional electrical power and installation of updated electrical equipment are necessary for that.
