JSC “Moscow United Electric Grid Company” is continuing to increase the transformer capacities of the capital city. Branch of the Company – Central Electric Grids (CEG) has accomplished the installation works and putting into operation the new transformer with the capacity of 125 MVA at 110 kV substation “Nikitskaya”.

Substation which was put into operation in year 1984 is located in the very center of Moscow. Power supply of such socially and economically significant facilities depends on its reliable function, as the buildings of the State Duma, the Moscow Kremlin, Moscow State University, Zoological and Polytechnical museums, the Bolshoy Theatre, traction substation T-3 of the underground and a series of the others.

Installation of transformer T-1 has been made within the framework of an investment project of JSC “MOESK” for reconstruction of 110/10 kV substation “Nikitskaya”. The renovation completion of the feeding center is planned for year 2015; the cost estimate of the works exceeds RUR 540 mln.

The current year, on the first stage of the project implementation, two transformers will be substituted. In September the power engineers will start installing the second transformer with the capacity of 125 MVA.

“As a result the capacity of the substation will be increased by two times, – specified Director of CEG Vsevolod Ivanov. – And in the future, after a reconstruction of an adjoining 110 kV grid, this feeding center will be opened for the technological connection of the new consumers. The renovation of substation “Nikitskaya” will become a pawn for the power supply quality and reliability increase of the capital city’s consumers”.

Modern transformer T-1 produced abroad has been installed instead of an obsolete one with the capacity of 63 MVA. T-1 s equipped with a remote-mount cooling system, which was elaborated specially with due account for the project peculiarities of SS “Nikitskaya”. The system installation has made it possible to place the powerful modern equipment in a small-sized closed chamber.

Also in the reconstruction course the armored current limiting reactors were installed for the first time in the capital city. Magnetic fields in such reactors close a magnetic flow by themselves to themselves, which excludes practically heating of the metal structures located near. It makes it possible to place the bigger capacity reactors on the premises which are smaller in area.

Besides that, the conditioning system of the reactor has been installed; the relay protection has been substituted by the new micro processing one.

By the words of head of the District High-Voltage Electric Grids of the Central Administrative District of CEG Alexander Mikhalyov, the works to substitute the second transformer will be accomplished till the autumn and winter period beginning.
