JSC “MOESK” has completed reconstruction of the “Babushkin” 220 kV substation of the branch Central Electric Grids. Modernization of the facility was performed during six years. It resulted in an increase in transformer capacity from 198 MVA to 252 MVA and opening of a feeding center for grid connection of new consumers.

“Babushkin” 220 kV substation (S) was built in 1960. As part of the investment program of JSC “MOESK”, in order to decrease the load of the adjacent 110 kV grids, increase feeding reliability for consumers in the 220 kV grid and transmission capacity of 220 kV transit systems, it was decided to transfer “Babushkin” S from 110 kV to 220 kV. A new building of the 220 kV complete gas-insulated switchgear (CGIS) was constructed for this purpose. Capital investments in the reconstruction of the substation exceeded RUR 2 bn.“In the process of construction, the advanced technologies were applied, reliable high-tech equipment of 220 kV was installed, oil circuit breakers of 6-10 kV were replaced by vacuum ones, thus reducing operating costs and increasing reliability and fire safety,” Pavel Samylov, deputy director and chief engineer of the Central Electrical Grids said.

Besides, 4 transformers of type TRDN-63000/220 4 of 63 MVA each made by JSC “Electrozavod” and 2 transformers of type TDNS-16000/10 of 16 MVA each were mounted at the substation. Modern microprocessor terminals of protections made by the best world and domestic manufacturers were applied.

8 sections with 92 cells were mounted in the 10 kV complete switchgear (CS), 65 ones of which are feeders, 8 are inputs, 8 are busbar couplers. Vacuum circuit breakers of 10 kV of type VBP-10 and VBEK-10, cells of type K-104.

4 sections for 37 cells were mounted in the 10 kV CS, 25 of which are feeders, 4 are inputs, 4 are busbar couplers. Vacuum circuit breakers of 10 kV of type VBP-10, cells of type K-104.

“Enhancement of reliability, capacity and security of the substation “Babushkin” is particularly important given that it is one of the main supply centers of the North-Eastern Administrative District of Moscow and surrounding areas of the Moscow Area,” Vsevolod Ivanov, director of the Central Electric Grids said.

The main consumers of the feeding center “Babushkin” are JSC “Russian Railways”, OJSC “Electroset’” (Mytischi), experimental plant “CSRIC” (Central Scientific Research Institute of Construction), FSUE (Federal State Unitary Enterprise) “Research Institute of Precision Instruments”, LLC “Spetstonnelstroy” and other socially important sites.
