JSC “Moscow United Electric Grid Company” (part of Russian Grids state company) completed works for transferring 220 kV line Butyrki-Centralnaya into a new complete set 220 kV SF6 insulated switchgear. The works are completed within the framework of reconstruction of substation (SS) Centralnaya 220 kV belonging to the central electric grid branch.

Also automatic transformer (AT-3) 250 MVA is transferred into a new gas-insulated switchgear and control gear 220 kV, as well as firefighting system of AT-3 has been tested.

Oil filled circuit switches are now being replaced to modern, environmental friendly and safe sealed models in an indoor switchgear (IS) rated for 6 and 10 kV.
Recently we have completed installation of 220 kV current leads and passthrought entries from 220 kV gas insulated switch cell of AT-3 up to automatic transformer of a new switchgear with 220 kV SF6 insulation (gas insulated switchgear).

Gas insulated electric equipment features higher reliability and increased throughput as compared to the legacy models. Use of state of the art technologies in production of equipment enabled us to lower OPEX and increase reliability and safety as well as extend maintenance turnaround cycle, - says Vsevolod Ivanov, director of central electric grid branch.

Decision about large scale reconstruction of Centralnaya substation was taken in 2010 in order to increase quality, reliability and safety of power supply. Moscow United Electric Grid Company plans invest 1 bln 617 mln rubles to the renovation of the facility. Reconstruction is scheduled to be completed in 2016.

Centralnaya substation supplies power to huge amount of social and economic significant facilities located in the heart of the capital. These are: The State Academic Theater (Bolshoy Theater), Polytechnic Museum, R&D institute of emergency medicine named after N. V. Sklifosovskiy, Beijin and Moscow hotels, accommodation units, hospitals, schools, nurseries.
