The branch of JSC “Moscow United Electric Grid Company” – “Southern Electric Grids" is implementing measures to ensure trouble-free operation of the equipment, buildings and facilities during the spring flood.

For effective preparation of power facilities and equipment to flood and prevention of electricity breaks for consumers, the company set up a commission headed by Alexander Panchenko, chief engineer. The Commission has the tasks of preparing subdivisions, industrial sites and services for flood, control over his passing, as well as arrangement of cooperation with the relevant commissions of JSC “MOESK”, administrations of cities and districts, located in the southern area of responsibility of electrical grids.

The branch serves ten administrative districts of the Moscow Area, located from the Moscow Ring Road in the north to Serebryanye Prudy in the south of the Moscow Area. The service area of the branch includes the rivers Moskva, Nara, Oka, Osyotr, Smedovka, Kashirka, Lopasnya, spillage of which can cause flooding of individual facilities, their possible damage during ice drift. Rise in underground water level due to spring flooding is of certain risk as well.

Years of experience have helped to discover more than 100 energy facilities potentially subject to flooding. They include, above all, air passages of 10 and 110 kV lines, high-voltage substations and distribution grids facilities. Rise in water level can cause damage them, be a barrier for service and maintenance personnel to approach them. Therefore, monitoring of such objects, as well as possible measures to remove them from operation and switching of consumers are predefined. Where needed, means capable of pumping out water are localized and prepared; emergency stock of materials and spare parts is formed.

Alexander Panchenko said that now storm drains, inspection holes, cable channels and tunnels, as well as power lines, distribution stations and transformer substations located in the zones of possible flooding are regularly inspected. Certain facilities that run medium and high risks introduced round-the-clock duty of emergency crews.

Preparations for passage of spring flooding are aimed to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers and minimize timing of troubleshooting in the electrical system of the region.
