JSC "Moscow United Electric Grid Company" begins a large-scale reconstruction of "Volokolamskaya" 110/35/10 kV substation (S) in the west of the Moscow Area, which was built in 1958.

In order to increase transmission capacity and replace obsolete equipment, the works will be carried out in several stages, without disconnecting consumers. The first phase of retooling will include beginning of construction of 110 kV outdoor switchgear (OS) using gas-insulated breakers. The new equipment will be designed to connect four existing 110 kV power lines and new one - "Volokolamsk - Davydkovo", which is provided by the project for transit after transformer capacity enhancement. Specialists will replace two existing transformers of 25 MVA by two new ones of 40 MVA each. Thus, after performance of all the works, the total transformer capacity will raise 1.5 time.

The second stage of the works stipulates construction of a building of the closed-type switchgear in the modular implementation (CDDEI (complete distribution device of external installation)) of 35 kV. The building, which will room a modern electrical equipment saving space will be made in the form of modular structures. Through the use of thermal insulation, high voltage equipment is well protected from the environment effects. Thereby their service life will be extended, which ultimately will increase environmental compatibility and security of the energy facility located in the center of the city of Volokolamsk. In parallel, energy engineers will hold construction of a modular building of 10 kV closed switchgear (CS), which is combined with the common substation control board (CSCB).

Substation "Volokolamskaya" has great social significance for the city and the Volokolamsk District as a whole. In addition to the residential areas, it supplies industrial customers, all socially important facilities of the city, a few clinics, schools and kindergartens.

"The whole set of works at the power facility will not only improve the reliability and quality of electricity supply to the existing customers greatly, but will also create an opportunity for connection of new consumers to the electric grids of JSC “MOESK”," Victor Ivanov, Director of MOESK’s branch "Western Electric Grids" said.
