Renovated 220 kV “Babushkin” substation was opened in Northeastern Administrative District with participation of Sergey Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow. The facility of Moscow United Electric Grid Company (MOESK is a company of the Rosseti Group) was put into operation after renovation in strict accordance with the plans of the investment program.

On March 16, Mayor of the capital accompanied by Pyotr Sinyutin, General Director of JSC “MOESK”, visited one of the most modern supplying centers in Moscow. Sergey Sobyanin viewed electrical equipment of “Babushkin” substation and personally made sure that the most advanced technologies were used in construction. The high-tech equipment installed have smaller dimensions, increased transmission capacity and a higher level of reliability and safety.

The large-scale project worth over RUR 3 billion was implemented by MOESK (Central Electric Grids, MOESK branch) during 7 years. The works were carried out on a phased basis without disconnecting electricity supply to consumers. As a result of the modernization the transformer capacity of the substation increased from 198 MVA to 252 MVA, there was established a significant reserve for connection of new consumers (over 112 MVA). In order to improve the quality and reliability of electricity supply, there was a shift from 110 kV to 220 kV, a higher voltage category.

According to Pyotr Sinyutin, putting into operation a modern substation with a significant capacity reserve is of strategic importance for development of the northeast of the capital. In the coming years it is planned to erect residential buildings here with the area of over 100 thousand square meters as well as several socially and economically important facilities. In particular, connection to electricity supply will be provided to a multifunctional business center, kindergarten, dormitory for students of Moscow Institute of the Border Guard Service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation and a number of other facilities.

“The renovated substation can fully satisfy the increased demand for electricity supply in the Northern Administrative District,” emphasized the General Director of JSC “MOESK”.

It is noteworthy that the major part of the electrical equipment installed was manufactured in Russia, namely four modern power transformers with the capacity of 63 MVA were manufactured by OJSHÑ “Elektrozavod”, an enterprise located in Moscow. The reliable and safe to use K-104 cells installed in 6-10 kV switchgear and control gear were manufactured by OJSC “Moselektroshchit”.

As of today, “Babushkin” substation provides centralized electricity supply to industrial enterprises, public and residential buildings located in Babushkinsky, Losinoostrovsky, Severnoe and Yuzhnoe Medvedkovo and Sviblovo districts of Northeastern Administrative District of the capital and Mytishchinsky district of the Moscow Region with the population of over 1.3 million people.
